Cosmis Racing Wheels Review: Are They Good Or Are They Reps?
There’s a wheel company that came out of nowhere a few years ago and quickly grew in popularity for selling affordable wheels that are very durable and look great.

You may be looking at a set of Cosmis Racing wheels and wondering if they can really be any good for the price?
In this post I’m going to cover Cosmis Racing in detail and answer the question of how good their wheels are.
The History Of Cosmis Racing
Cosmis Racing was founded in 2011 and is owned by a company called PP Superwheels, a wheel manufacturer from Thailand that has been around since 2004.
They originally debuted the Cosmis Racing wheels is 2012 at SEMA Las Vegas, and due to the success of that and the attention they received, in 2013 the USA division was opened and they began selling wheels to the American market.
Cosmis Racing’s goal is to make strong, durable and attention grabbing wheels that are affordable.
This puts them in competition with brands such as Enkei, Rota and Konig, who provide low cost, quality wheels that are popular with track enthusiasts and people looking for decent affordable wheels that are not reps.
Cosmis Racing have more than 100 designs and are constantly releasing new wheels.
Cosmis USA hand pick designs to sell within the USA market, so while the range available in America is just a fraction of the wheels that Cosmis actually produces, they are extremely popular and sell very well.
What Cosmis does differently from most other brands is they sell affordable cast and flow formed monoblocks wheels in very wide sizes and aggressive low offsets, something that is not very common.
Usually to get sizes like the ones that Cosmis offer, you have to spend thousands of dollars to buy custom 3-piece wheels.
They has made Cosmis extremely popular especially since the rise in popularity of widebodies and over fenders that require wide wheels with low offsets.
Combine that with the fact that they are durable and can take a beating, these wheels are often seen on track builds and drift cars.
Cosmis Racing USA also like to be involved in the community and sponsor many events and race teams including T-Pain’s drift team Nappy Boy Drifting.

How Cosmis Racing Rims Are Made
Cosmis Racing wheels are made in Taiwan. Cosmis has stated that they only work with two factories to produce their wheels because those were the only two factories that meet their testing and quality requirements.
Cosmis are very particular about the quality and strength of their wheels, with many of the models featuring strength hoops on the barrels to give them extra rigidity.
Manufacturing
Cosmis Racing use both low pressure casting and flow forming to make their wheels.
Most of their wheels are cast, while models with “FF” at the end of the name are flow formed.
Flow Forming
Starting with aluminium that is mixed with titanium, magnesium and a few other elements for added strength, the cast the center of the wheel using low pressure casting which results in a stronger wheel then gravity casting.
After casting the wheel is submerged in warm water, and then put through an X-Ray machine to check the molecular structure of the wheel and ensure there are no defects.
Next the wheel is put on a lathe to mill out the design and clean up the casting.
From there, the barrels are made using flow forming, with the wheel being put on a spinning machine while heat is applied, and rollers stretch out the barrel into shape from the cast material.
This creates and even stronger and more consistent metallic structure and makes the barrels much stronger.
The wheel is then cooled and put in the engraver to engrave the logo.
Once that is done, the wheel is checked for balance and runout to ensure it is within spec and there are no problems.
The wheel is finally skimmed with deburring tools for a final clean up before the finish is applied.
Now the wheel can be cleaned and rinsed, and sent for powder coat, where the base is powder coated.
The letters are then once again milled out, and the final powder coat finish is applied.
Cast
The casting process is similar to the process above except that the wheels are cast at the full size and the barrels are not made by flow forming, so they skip that step.
Safety Certifications
Cosmis Racing wheels are all JWL and VIA certified, meaning they have to pass a series of tests to ensure they are strong enough to meet the forces they will be subjected to on a car.
However, Cosmis say that they make their wheels to exceed these tests, and some of their wheels are also TUV certified which as even more stringent.

While these are not technically safety “certifications”, they do give you an idea of the strength and durability of their wheels.
Are Cosmis Racing Wheels Heavy?
Yes, Cosmis Racing wheels tend to be heavier than other wheels in similar sizes.
This is because Cosmis Racing have put great emphasis to ensure their wheels are strong, which requires putting extra material on the wheel.
While this adds weight, it makes the wheels more durable. and as a result you will see them on many drift and track cars because they can take a lot of abuse.
Now, in saying all that they are not that heavy.
The XT-206R, one of their most popular wheels, in 18×9.5 weights 23 lbs (10.4 kg). The flow formed versions, the XT-206R-FF, also in 18×9.5 weights 21 lbs (9.5 kg).
An Enkei RPF1, a very popular lightweight flow formed wheel, in 18×9.5 weights around 18 lb (8 kg).
So the Cosmis Racing wheels are a bit heavier, but I wouldn’t say so much that it should put you off running them unless you really need the weight savings (in which case you should probably get forged monoblocks anyway).

Are Cosmis Racing Wheels Any Good?
Yes. Cosmis Racing wheels have proven themselves over the last few years to be extremely during wheels that can take a beating.
They have become a popular choice particularly for drifters who often tap walls and go off the track, and require cheap wheels that can take abuse and won’t break at the slightest impact.
Cosmis Racing wheels have proven to be the perfect solution to this, combined with the fact that they offer wide sizes and offsets not commonly available in low cost, affordable monoblocks.
Put it this way, if you buy a set of Cosmis Racing wheels, breaking them is not going to be a worry you will have. If you do break them, you would have broken any other wheel anyway.
Conclusion – Should You Buy Cosmis Racing Wheels?
Yes. Cosmis Racing wheels are great, low cost wheels that are extremely durable and come in a wide range of sizes and finishes that are not readily available at this price range or as cast or flow formed monoblocks.
They are very durable and can take a beating, and have proven to be a good choice over the few years they have been on the market.
The only downside is that most of their size options are pretty aggressive, so they may not fit every car.
