1995 BMW 328i E36 Build Thread – Part 13: Repraying the Roof, Fender & Door
After hours and hours of sanding, it was finally ready for paint.
Since I didn’t have access to a paint booth, I set up a makeshift booth in the driveway:
To do this job I used a proper spray gun (just an auto-store special) and compressor, and PPG single pack paint. Some in-progress shots:
And the end result:
Overall it came out much better than the previous attempt. The color match was not 100%, the roof had some slight streaking and it had a bit of orange peel (nothing some sand paper couldn’t fix) but it was miles better than what was there originally and miles better than the spray can job.
I did actually end up wetsanding and polishing it about a week later and it came out really good, unfortunately I didn’t take any photos while doing it.
At this point I also bought the 300zx and I decided I would rather spend my time and money on that car, so a few weeks later I put this up for sale.
