Are CXRacing Coilovers Any Good? Read Our Review to Find Out
If you’re strapped for cash and looking to buy coilovers, you’ve probably come across the name CXRacing.
CXRacing offer incredibly cheap coilovers which can be very tempting if you don’t have the money to spend on a more expensive setup.
However, are they a actually a good buy? Or are you going to find yourself having to buy new coilovers in 6 months’ time?
In this post I’m going to cover CXRacing and their coilovers, and whether or not they are a good purchase.
About CXRacing
CXRacing is based in California and sell a wide range of aftermarket performance parts, particularly in the budget price range. Their website has been around since 2006, so they have been around for at least that long.
They are most known for their budget turbo kits, which sell for extremely cheap, and have mixed reviews at best. Though more recent reviews do seem to be more positive than on their older products.
Aside from that, it’s very difficult to find any other information about the company. Aside from an address, phone number and contact form on their website, there is practically no information about who they are, where their parts are made or anything else.
Their about us page literally has one sentence which is a disclaimer about using their parts on road vehicles:
Unfortunately, this is pretty typical from budget parts brands and doesn’t do much to inspire confidence in the quality of their parts.
About CXRacing Coilovers
CXRacing only have one coilover kit model which ranges in price from $400 to around $900 depending on what car model it’s for. They are made for a fairly wide range of vehicles including European, Japanese and Domestic, so they probably do have a kit for your car.
These coilovers allow you to adjust ride height by the shock body, giving you 1-3 inches of lowering on most models and allowing you to retain full suspension travel at all ride heights.
They feature monotube dampers with 32 levels of dampening adjustment. There are no other details as to the kind of valving or any other information on the dampers.
They also come with top mounts, with MacPherson strut models featuring Pillowball camber adjustable top mounts. Other models tend to come with Pillowball front and rubber rear mounts.
CXRacing do specify spring rates for each vehicle, however they do not offer any customization options such as different springs or valving.
They also offer a 1 year warranty for defective parts. You must have receipt of professional installation for the warranty to be valid.
There are no other details or information given about the specifics of these coilovers, so unfortunately we don’t know what oil they use, which kind of valving (most likely linear) or anything else. I’d also be very surprised if you could get a shock dyno graph of the dampers.
From the information I could find online, these seem to be made by the BC Racing factory (this is quite common), but with a smaller strut tube diameter. So basically, they aren’t as good as the BC Racing coilovers, which is not surprising given the significant price difference.
What Do Other People Think of CXRacing Coilovers?
I did quite a bit of digging online to try to find reviews of these coilovers. There wasn’t a whole lot of actual reviews to be found, just mostly speculation on forums and people calling them rubbish without having owned them.
I did find a couple of positive reviews, but these reviews mostly were the person just bought and installed them, and no information of how good they were after some time had passed.
I also found a comments on both sides claiming they were rubbish and claiming they were good a couple of years later even after track days, but little supporting evidence of either side.
A few people also mentioned bad customer service, which if true, could be an issue when you try to claim warranty.
The Verdict on CXRacing Coilovers
My opinion is that you are rolling the dice. There is very little information to justify actually buying these coilovers, especially where there are other brands at similar price levels which are much more known and widely used and have a decent reputation as far as budget coilovers go.
There’s just nothing going for these coilovers other than the low price, and to be honest, it’s not even that low.
So, basically, if you don’t have enough entertainment in your life and you like to gamble with your time and money, then get these coilovers.
However, if you want a more solid option that is far more likely to last longer, ride better and give you decent handling, consider the options below.

If you are looking for coilovers in this price range, I would highly recommend checking out TEIN Flex Zs.

- BC Racing (slightly more expensive but are proven and offer amazing value for money)

These are proven brands with lots of positive reviews that will do a decent job for the price, especially the BC Racing kit.
