ISR Performance Coilovers Review – Should You Buy Them?
ISR Performance (previously called ISIS Performance NA, LLC) is a relatively small brand when it comes to coilovers.
Despite being around since at least 2011 (under the name ISIS Performance until 2015 when they changed to ISR), they are still relatively unheard of, with not a lot of people running their coilovers.
Along with coilovers they also make a wide range of other performance parts including turbos, brakes, steering racks, fuel pumps and more.
Their products are in the budget price range category, so it’s worth taking a look to see if they are decent, as they could be a hidden gem. Let’s find out.
About ISR Performance
As I mentioned, ISR Performance used to be called ISIS performance and have been around since 2011.
Aside from being based in Florida, there isn’t much more information to be found on the company. Their “about us” description is the same as it has been since 2011, and is a pretty generic statement, giving no specific details about what exactly they do, where their parts are made and so on.
I also wasn’t able to dig up where their coilovers are actually made, which is unfortunate.
About ISR Performance Coilovers
ISR only offer one coilover model at the time of this writing, called the Performance Pro, which sell for around $900. This puts them in the budget range next to brands like Megan Racing, Ksport and Godspeed.
They are only made for a handful of cars, including:
- Hyundai Genesis Coupe
- Mazda Miata / MX5
- Mazda RX7 FC3S
- Nissan 300zx
- Nissan 350z (True rear coilovers)
- Nissan 370z
- Nissan 180sx
- Nissan 240sx S14 & S15
- Nissan Skyline R32
- Subaru Impreza STI
- Subaru BRZ / Scion FR-S / Toyota GT86
They come with most of the standard features you’d expect from coilovers in this range including:
- Ride height adjustment by the shock body
- 32-level dampening adjustability (1-way)
- Pillow-ball camber adjustable strut mounts on applicable models (MacPherson strut)
On ISR’s website they say they are designed for both street and track use, and people’s reviews do seem to back this up.
While there aren’t a lot of reviews, all the reviews I did find from people running these coilovers were all positive. They are reported to be good quality, with a decent ride. They do use stiffer spring rates than most other brands, and the ride is a bit stiff according to people who have them, but they are still comfortable enough to be used for daily driving.
People regularly use them on the track with no issues, reporting that the handling is great and they can take the abuse.
Should You Buy ISR Performance Coilovers?
Honestly, I’m not sure. The thing that puts me off is the lack of information on ISR Performance in general. Yes, they have been around for a fairly long time now (over 10 years), and yes, the reviews I found were positive.
But there’s just so few details about the product and where they are made that it’s hard to pick them over some of the other brands that are more transparent or easy to find information on. It’s not like there is a shortage of coilovers in this price range.
The other concern I have is why so few people are running their kit, even after 10 years of being in the game. They might be decent, but it looks to me like too big of a gamble.
There’s also no mention of any warranty, which doesn’t instil any confidence when most other coilover brands offer at least 1 year warranty.
So, personally, I’d sooner go with a more known brand like Megan Racing or certainly TEIN (you can get Flex Z’s for the same price) and be safe than sorry.
